In 1996, two twenty-year-old Australians had an idea. Fresh from their success producing disco parties in Sydney they wondered why there were no elastic closure street wear sneakers on the market. They had a sketch made and visited key retailers in London, Los Angeles and San Francisco to see if any one else had developed the same idea, no one had. Tull Price and Rodney Adler knew they had to be first and had to be global, it was time to go to Asia.

They arrived in Seoul and started calling manufacturers from a trade directory picked up at the airport. Nike's first local manufacturer invited them to his factory in Pusan, it was the first time either had been inside a shoe plant. Dressed in new suits, Price and Aldar reckoned their first hurdle was for a prototype to be made. The twosome went back to London with a mold and Royal Elastics was born.
