Young California designer George Esquivel is reviving the art of crafting custom-designed shoes. His fans include Gwen Stefani, Drew Carey, Seth Green and Kevin Costner. What they all have in common: a love of something that's been made especially for them. "I consider my shoes modern classics," Esquivel says. "Most of my styles have an edge or a sense of fun to them."

Esquivel offers several types of shoes, which he changes to suit whatever a customer wants. Each shoe takes 100 steps to make, and the price tag reflects that: Costs range from $500 to $2,500 per pair for exotic skins like alligator, lizard, and stingray. The wearer gets a shoe that reflects both classic and personal style. The shoes are hand-lasted-each pair is individually formed on a last, or mold, for its size and style. Esquivel can even make shoes in quarter-sizes, assuring the best fit.
